Cosmetic Gum Reshaping Specialist
Combining Cosmetics With Art
Cosmetic gum reshaping is an essential procedure in smile makeovers or any dental cosmetic procedure. When we look at your smile we look at the total architecture and symmetry of your mouth. Patients tend to look at the incisal edges of their teeth. However, the line angle of where the tooth meets the gum is essential to obtaining a magnificent esthetic result. Dr Aqib, has the unique gifts of blending exquisite clinical excellence with the aesthetic sense of a true artist. If you look at a beautiful smile and if we were to draw a line down the center of the smile between the two front teeth (the centrals) you will notice that the right side is a mirror image of the left side. Additionally, you will notice that the ratio of the size of the central tooth to its smaller closest neighbor is 1.6:1. This is called the esthetic ratio that appears naturally in Nature and in great works of art like the Parthenon.
Dr. Aqib has quantified an array of these ratios and then adapt them to specific faces and contours of our patients. In order to do this, the gums must be prepared to accept the beautiful porcelain restorations that Dr. Aqib will place. Thus gum reshaping or gum recontouring is an essential preliminary step to constructing a truly beautiful smile.
Dr. Aqib sets the stage for the proper design of the gingiva (gum) so that restorations like porcelain veneers or crowns can look their best, with balance, harmony, and symmetry. In the pictures below you can see beautifully restored smiles. After cosmetic gum contouring was completed the teeth were restored with porcelain veneers or crowns.
Dental Gum Reshaping
In cosmetic dentistry, we have determined ratios of the length and width of teeth relative to one another. The low smile line (the edges of the teeth) is just as important as the high smile line (the line where the tooth meets the gum). There must be harmony between right and left sides, there must be a balance as to the geometry of the tooth so that the final restoration (ie porcelain veneer) fits and looks as if Mother Nature placed it herself.
